My favourite topic.. Bollywood movies.. :)

In today's time the scenario for movies is very different from what it used to be in 80's or 90's. The audience is more impatient. They want good entertainment packed in small time. Also with the awareness and reduction in cost of various technlogies they know the tricks of the trade of movie making. It is not possible to fool them or woo them with good locations or stylization of a silly script. They want good quality entertainment. They want what I call "intelligent creativity". Gone are the days when impractical stories were accepted. The stories which make sense and challenge one's imagination are in demand. These may be 'small budget' films, multilinguistic films, or any other kind of films. Only the story and the treatment given to it matters. The cast, location, music, action, effects etc. are only add-ons. They cannot make a movie entertaining. Only the story, more specifically the script, can do that. With innovative ideas of publicity any movie can be made to 'look' like an amazing movie. Thanks to the multiplexes all the movies find some audience and become 'hits'. I don't think any movie can go in loss in present scenario. There are those who make streotyped movies and there are those who experiment. All of them earn money. But where are those who aim at making a classic? If we look around the movies with the so-called different subjects are also simillar on some lines or other. Even those who spend real good time and money on making of a movie, forget about its script.

As of now I can think only "Rang De Basanti" to be a good different movie."Lage Raho Munnabhai" too to an extent. I know many people who have seen these movies more than once in the theater. You can't expect to make sub-standard movies and cry about piracy. You make a good worth buying. It will be bought.

Now is the time we need filmmakers who are creative, intelligent, smart, sensible, practical, and most importantly who yearn for originality and strive for perfection. Those who can think global and have high aspirations. Those who are ready to give all that it takes to make a real classic. Those who want to tell a story, the 'world' has not yet heard.
